As the right continues to dodge personal responsibility for what happened in Arizona and as Sister Sarah continues to demonstrate that she has no clue regarding the meaning of that target she placed over Gabrielle Giffords, the following idea came to me.
Maybe those of us on the left have been going about the Second Amendment all wrong here!
Hey! The Founding Fathers wrote it for us, didn't they? They thought we would be responsible enough to handle gun ownership, didn't they? That being stated, maybe a total repeal of the Second Amendment is a bit harsh.
However, just as there are taxes on tobacco products so as to help with anti-smoking programs, maybe we should tax the bullets!
Yeah! There we go!
We should place a tax on every round of ammunition so that we can pay off the deficit and provide health care for victims of gun violence!
The solution was right under our noses the entire time! We didn't have to enact the Brady Law, and we didn't have to enact handgun laws, either! All we had to do was tax the ammunition by the round instead of by the box!
Can you imagine what could be done with the revenue generated by all of that income?
Conservatives would have to come up with another excuse regarding why universal health care is a bad thing!
Schools would be fully-funded!
There would be no cuts in any social programs at all!
Infrastructure would be restored!
Then again, if it turned out that no one could afford to buy the ammunition because of their inability to pay the tax, well....
Hey! It's a win-win because social programs get full funding, fewer crimes on the street and we cut the deficit!
